COMMENT ON THE GOSPEL – SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY TRINITY (B)

Mt 28:16-20
“Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.””
(Mt 28:16-20)
Today, we want to consider this great truth: the presence of Jesus is with us!
This is our God: One and Three, made flesh in Jesus indetifying Himself with us, present with us, making us participants in the divine family.
“I am with you always, to the end of the age”: With closer examination, this promise of Jesus overturns the intentions of the people of Babel. They had wanted to break the silence of God and reach to the heights of heaven, the celestial peaks: “if He won’t descend, we will try and climb up to Him!”. Man seeks to make himself God, following that tendency of pride and arrogance which, unfortunately, is now reaching unprecedented dimensions in many aspects of life. However, this is not the project of God. He affirms His desire to come down and remain with us. He doesn’t want to leave us alone! In the incarnation, He demonstrated His will to become man and to take part of his marvellous creation.
So, we shouldn’t feel alone, abandoned, or forgotten. Let’s refine our perception, and discover His certain and constant presence. Our God became man and comes alongside you in order to enter into the details of your daily life and to overcome your difficulties with you. The key to victory is faith: believe that you are not alone, that He is with you, even today!
